Back
in the 70's if someone was talking about the
Yandles at the racetrack, it wasn't because
they were fans, or they were mad at the
driver, or any of the other reasons racers
talk about other drivers. It was because
they needed to see David's dad, to get
something put back together. Junior had an
old pick up truck set up in the infield at
the now closed Starlite Speedway in Monroe,
where he would weld the stuff the drivers
broke at the track.
Growing up in
that type of environment, it is very hard
not to be involved in racing in some
manner, and so it was with David. Though he
chose the different path, as a driver.
Having been around the track most of his
life, David bought an old Dodge Valero, and
decided to give it a go. He didn't do much
to it either, other than get in it and
drive. In fact, the cars number was even 03
when he picked it up, and he figured that
was as good as any number to run, so he even
left it. Nearly 20 years later, its still on
the sides of his cars.
David campaigned
that car in the Super Stock division
primarily at East Lincoln his first year,
but soon he wanted to move up and branch
out. One of the first things he tried was
IMCA modifieds, and nearly would up racing
them instead of late models. In fact, the
first time he sat in one at East Lincoln, he
finished 2nd!
But it was to be
the late models that drew him in. Racing
them most of his career he has picked up
nearly 10 feature wins. He has competed at
tracks throughout the area such as Harris,
Chester, East Lincoln, New Columbia, Lake
View, Lowes, Friendship, and Lancaster.
Nowadays, David
calls Lancaster his "home" track. It is been
both good and bad to him over the years. He
nearly won the Championship in 2005, only to
fall short by a couple of points. A couple
of years ago, David put together a string of
wins in the heats races of 4 in row, but
still was waiting on that first feature win
in late models. In 07 he had been so
painfully close that year, even losing one
on a last lap battery failure that he looked
to have in the bag. But finally, near the
close of the season, it finally came
together, and he picked up his first win.
Now that he has tasted victory lane, he will
be hard to keep out again.
Special
Thanks

Dad
Family.
