Jerry Sims first began attending races as a youngster at local tracks such as Lancaster Speedway and Starlite. Jerry loved the sights and sounds and was quickly hooked. He did nearly anything he could to attend the races during his childhood, whether it was the local bull rings or Darlington, it didn't matter. As he grew older, he took his love of racing and decided to start a business that would allow him to "hang out" with the drivers, crews, and fans, and possibly make a little money on the side. Thus Speedway Photo Service was born in the mid-seventies. During that time, Jerry served as track photographer for both

Chester and Lancaster Speedway. In addition to the photography, he also custom built models of the racer's cars. Thru his business, Jerry was able to meet many of his heroes and actually call them friends. But as things will happen, a divorce in the mid 80's put a slow down to his fun. Jerry abandoned Speedway Photo, in order to pursue his other love, modeling. For the next 20 some odd years, he built models for local drivers as well as legend such as Junior Johnson, Neil Bonnett and the many other NASCAR stars as well as stars such as Tom Cruise under the banner of "Ole Redneck Race Cars". Becoming somewhat of a celebrity, Jerry enjoyed designing cars for RCCA, and the likes as well as writing colums for magazines.

Dwayne Sims- Speedway Photo today.
Along about the same time, Dwayne, his son, was asked by Duane Goins to help Sugar Creek Speedway design a site for their re-opening in '99. Dwayne, who had grown up around racing all of his life jumped at the opportunity, and worked for 2 years as the tracks webmaster, getting to run around the track, and meet many of his heroes, just the same as his dad had done years before. The Sugar Creek site lead to several other sites such as Laurens Speedway, Carolina Motorsports Park, Tiger Tom Pistone and others. Dwayne was having a blast taking pictures and trying to learn as much as he could about not only
about web design, but photography. Then in 2005, Dwayne got the call he had wanted for many years, track photographer for his "home Track", Lancaster Speedway. So the first thing he did was call up his dad, and get the name of his fathers old company, Speedway Photo out of mothballs. the next thing to do was to likewise drag his dad outta the mothballs, and get him back to the track. It didn't take long for the two to find things hadn't changed much in the 20 years they were away. Both were welcomed right away, and love the opportunity they are getting to not only relive their childhoods together, but to meet and make friends with so many wonderful people. It was a great 4 years. Then in 2008, Dwayne decided to take Speedway Photo in a different direction, and thus this website was born. Thru the site, Dwayne is now working on new websites all the time, still taking pictures for this site, and still promoting racing to anyone who will listen.
